With their first chance laying in tattered ruins, it appears to be a nearly impossible undertaking for Jackson and Holly to get their second chance. Jackson Carter is the captain of the Boston Blades hockey team who lives, eats and breathes hockey. He seemingly has everything – fame, fortune, and his brothers/teammates. Everything except Holly, his ex-wife. Their marriage may have fallen apart but somehow neither of them managed to fall out of love.As a Luis fan from the beginning I grabbed the chance to read an early copy of this one. Each new book she pens is better than the last, but this one takes her work to an entirely new level. All of the elements we’ve come to expect are here – a captivating storyline, realistic and flawed, but immensely endearing characters, fantastic chemistry and a good dose of heat, and well-placed comic relief – but this book is so much more. Parallel to the hilarity Luis quickly sets the scene with regret over lost love, broken dreams and poignant longing. There’s something so compelling, relatable and endearing about both Holly and Jackson that I couldn’t help but love them as they brought their story alive. The element touching on sports injuries allowed Luis to flex her geeky research muscles and adds a deeper and somewhat heart wrenching aspect to the story that leaves a lasting impact on the reader offering a richer, more heartfelt experience. Of course, within the first few pages Luis had me snorting and then choking on my drink from an eruption of laughter, and then the book only got more hilarious. Group texts in the group dubbed the “Safe Space,†which was anything but safe, were a hoot and a half! Especially when Jackson thinks he’s sending something racy to Holly and it goes to the entire group. Oops. Then there’s the sacrilege perpetrated against the Stanley Cup. I’ll be laughing for days about that one!This book certainly runs the gamut of emotions, often turning on a dime. One second I’m laughing out loud and the next my heart is breaking for Holly and Jackson. They epitomize the saying, â€you don’t know what you have till it’s gone,†but their time apart led to growth and a deeper appreciation of what they had in each other, making them more determined to fight for their relationship and succeed the second time. If I were ever in doubt of the power of love, destiny and soulmates, Holly and Jackson exemplify that love can mend old hurts, heal old wounds, and wash away old pain and regret when given a second chance. Another winner from Maria!! This book about Jackson Carter, the captain of the Boston Blades Hockey Team, and Holly Carter, his ex-wife. This was such a sweet and touching story about a love that never died, and how they found their way back to each other. After 14 years of marriage, Holly and Jackson had become more and more distant from each other, and so they decided it was best if they just parted ways. The problem was, they were both still in love with each other but there was a communication breakdown, and they didn’t know what else to do. Holly is a photographer and owns her own business, and Jackson wanted her to be the one to photograph and record a new reality show, Getting Pucked, which was featuring the Blades. This is the story of how they find their way back to each other, and it is a beautiful story about love and loss and forgiveness. This is definitely a must read!
I have read all of the Blades Hockey books and I absolutely loved Holly’s and Jackson’s book. This second chance romance will have you flipping the pages until the end. We know Maria Luis can write some really steamy scenes and Body Check is no exception, but this book will also have you laughing out loud and jumping up and down cheering. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I highly recommend this book. I think this is now my favorite Blades book, but grab your copy and see if you agree with me. It doesn’t hurt that we get to check in on the previous sexy hockey players, lol. I just love the camaraderie between the teammates and how they consider theirselves family. I would definitely give this book more than five stars, if I could.
What can you say about this series except wow?! Each book Maria Luis gives her readers is, if possible a step up from the previous...Jackson and Hollys tale is not an exception to this - there is a wonderful realness to the characters as they navigate their divorce but lasting love, friends, and careers. There is humor abound and enough steam for a hockey team size sauna! You will NOT be disappointed by one clicking this entire series ⤠this is my honest review of a voluntarily read ARC that I enjoyed so much I had to one click it!
I absolutely LOVED this book! I love Maria Luis's books. I have read all of the Blades series and thought the romance and sweet love story of Hat Trick was my favorite until it was eclipsed by this funny heart warming story of two lovers finding their way back to each other. I felt the pain in Holly's need for space and the loneliness of Jackson as he seemed to lose it all. The sexy flirty banter was fun and indicative of two people who truly know each other. The serious topics covered were well researched and presented in a way to add to the story yet be informative about the issue. I appreciate that the seriousness of health concerns for athletes was not made light of in the story . I also LOVED the ending with all of the epilogues and looks into the future that added to the sweet ending . I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who has read this series or wants to just read a great second chance at love book.
This book...oh man, this book. It’s sexy. It’s heart-wrenching. It’s the perfect second chance story, one that shows how a lost love can be bigger and better the second time around. Once again, Maria did an incredible job of seamlessly weaving the main characters’ complicated history into a love story for the ages. I felt their love, their pain, their anger, and their hope; I even teared up a couple of times. Jackson and Holly’s story has been my absolute favorite story in the Blades series, and it’s one I plan to read over and over again.
