I just bought my first MacBook Pro 13" with High Sierra installed on it. This book is fantastic as I am a visual learner. The book shows you step by step, in pictures, how to do what you want to do. You see the exact same thing on your MacBook that the book is showing you. Step 1, Step 2, Step 3. If there are any options or sub steps A, B, C. You can't go wrong. It's practically idiot proof. Full disclosure: I am a non tech savvy senior citizen. This is perfect for me. Know your needs and make an informed choice. I'm glad I did and bought the paper back version of this book.

I was really disappointed in this Kindle-edition book. It seems to me that an appropriate organization would be to begin with the questions one might have when starting a Mac computer up for the first time and proceed with that format in mind; namely, covering topics consistent with what is the specific set up process, then how to perform basic tasks, then how to set up a network, how to connect to the internet, etc.Instead, this book is a jumbled set of topics, appearing in no recognizable progression that relates to what a first-time MacBook user might ask. For a relatively expensive how-to book, it is not asking too much to have an index to find the location of specific topics. I found the omission of an index to be a lazy way of saying, "Hope you enjoy flipping back to the Table of Contents all the time, though you probably won't find what you need there." If you can find an answer to any questions you have, and that's a huge if, the actual explanations listed are pretty good once you find the pertinent entry. That's the only reason I gave this book two stars rather than one.

This is from Mrs. Vollan who loves her new MacBook Pro. The book is very clear in explaining the features and options, but sometimes it assumes we know certain things, so some explanations do not start from "Step One" for those totally new to computers. The steps are numbered, and the illustrations and photos show these numbers, making it easy to read the steps and see which parts of the screen refer to the steps. The photos in color are very, very helpful. The rating would be five stars except the words in the illustrations/photos are very tiny, making a magnifier necessary.

Loved this, since it is Mavericks OS the book crosses over for iMac also.I am leading a group at my computer club and got this as a back up.It is great. Everything is explicitly shown and explained.I wish I had had this when I first got my iMac. Instead Iwent to Peach Mac for the weekly one on one and all they did was Google the questions I had!! LOL!!Buy this book and save a bundle.

I will only use this book as a reference book. Watching the you tube videos by David A. Cox, that really taught me the total concept of how to find my way around the holistic concept of apple.

My fault for not noticing how out of date the information was before buying

This is perfect for the visual learners. I instantly learned the solution to several annoying problems. Totally worth the purchase!

I haven't read too much of it yet. So many of these "Help" books are a bit overwhelming for a casual user. But I was able to look up a couple of things and get the help I needed. But I still recommend getting live in person help when you have computer issues. Let's face it, sometimes you don't even know what to look up.
