This book deserves 10 stars.It is filled with despair and hardship yet hope continues to shine ever more brightly throughout it all. This book gives a real insight into the lives of these children sent away to these god awful institutions. The author is an incredibly strong lady and this book is one everyone should read at least once in their life. This atrocity that happened should be taught in schools so children grow up knowing how many people suffered at the hands of those who were supposed to care. This can't be forgotten and left in the past as this needs to never be allowed to happen again.
The story was well written with amazing details. It confirms stories about the harsh conditions in the Irish orphanages.
Thank you Kathleen for sharing the story of your family. No child a gift from God ever deserves such treatment.
Powerful and detailed. This story shows everyone's ugly side as well as good side. Easy to follow and hard to put down.
Sickening abuse by priests, nuns and other workers at these orphanages was not properly investigated. Every l last one should have been publicly whipped and jailed.
Oh dear me what a read is this book heart renching story of a family divided and sent to a care home run by nuns in Ireland and at holidaytimes let to go to folks who said they would like needy children to give them love and afftection and cared for they wher mostly scivves and used for their own means etc., It upset me very much to think lovely carefree chidlren who loved to run in fields and loved life had such terrible treatment of abuse and being hit and battered by these so called good people Bahhh the people who loved them could not at the home coudl not reveal they knew what was going onas it was not believed by the authorites they blamed the children ! then at an older age reported their story they where tricked and could not report so people could read the goings on it could not be published how cruel they where treated, some of these children died yound and even older in life as they could not cope with their past lives ruined, so sad but folks should read this girls now a grown women with children of her own it is a must to read to let others know what has gone on and does it still go one with young children i am so sorry for all this but I had to read a true story thank you for sharing this story as it should be read by people who care
I was so intrigued by this book and this author. She takes you inside a life that most will and never can envision.
I've read many books about these abandoned and abused children. Kathleen's story is completely believable. It makes me wish I could have been there to give her all the love and cuddles that she and her sibblings so desperately needed. I would definitely recommend this book.
